'Chariots of Fur' 5K to benefit canines

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A running competition in Jacksonville Beach invites two-legged and four-legged participants.

St. Francis Animal Hospital is holding its 4th Annual Chariots of Fur Beach Run and Festival on Saturday, Feb. 6,  at the Seawalk Pavilion.

The pet-friendly event is a 5K run, walk and a one-mile fun run on the beach.

Participants can registers online or the morning of the event starting at 8:30 a.m. Festivities kick off at 9 a.m. with doga, where owners can do yoga with their dogs, and races start at 10 a.m.

All participants will get a T-shirt and goodie bag filled with items for people and pets. The top 5K race finishers will win a hand-made ceramic dog bowl.

The festival is open to everyone with plenty to do. There will be live music, vendors, food trucks, a dog adoption, children activities, contests, raffles and a silent auction.

All proceeds will go to the St. Francis Animal Hospital Helping Paws Fund, which helps make medical care available to all pets in need.

The St. Francis Animal Hospital is a nonprofit and founded in 2003. With last year’s donations, the hospital was able to help over 9,000 pets in 2015.
