ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Former vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke to a crowd gathered at Orange Park Mall before going inside to sign copies of her new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life," for at least 630 people who had lined up Sunday and Monday to get wristbands.
"I know we can't get to everyone and I so apologize. I just want to thank you so much for this encouragement, for your support," Palin said in brief remarks before heading inside.. "Thanks for reading my book Thanks for reading my book, unfiltered -- you don't have to go through the media to hear my words. I love that."
People started lining up outside the Orange Park store at 5 a.m. Sunday to get a wristband to entitle them to meet Palin and get a book autographed.
About 800 wristbands were distributed, but only the first 500 people were guaranteed they would get to meet Palin and get their books autographed.
"I was there at 8 o'clock on Sunday night, "Nancy Woody said. "I slept over; stayed until 5 o'clock (Monday) afternoon; was number 16.
When Palin left about 11 a.m., she had signed books for about 630 people and about another 200 people in line received stickers with her autograph that they could add to their books.
While some people were not happy they did not get to meet her in person, the vast majority of the crowd was pleased even to get a glimpse of a woman that many hope will run for president in 2012.
"I just have a lot of respect for her and appreciate her values and I think she's an honest person," Tom Vaughter said. "I hope the best for her and her family and hopefully she'll be in the White House some day."
Palin's book was released on Nov. 17 and Palin's tour began the next day in Michigan. Tuesday is the final day of her promotional book tour.
After the stop at Books-A-Million in Orange Park in the morning, she headed to an afternoon stop at The Villages, where she was treated like a star during her first campaign stop in Florida in September 2008, then will wrap of the tour at a book store in Orlando Tuesday evening.
