Two Republicans -- James Corbin Jr. and Wendell Davis -- are contending for the District 1 seat in Clay County.  There is no Democrat in the race, but there is one qualified write-in candidate, so the winner of the Aug. 14 Republican primary will appear on the November General Election ballot.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP THREE ISSUES IN THIS RACE?

  1. "Getting a handle on County expenditures: Giving large pay raises to a select few employees in the worst economy since the depression and paying the county manager $193,000 per year.
  2. "Paving projects: The county not making good use of the $71 million borrowed for road improvement in 2009.
  3. "Transparency of Government: More items need to be discussed in the public meetings. It is hard to believe that the county commissioners can agree on a topic without discussion over 95% of the time."
