Thrasher draws Democratic challenger

St. Augustine Democrat to run against well-funded Republican

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Democratic activist Kathleen Trued of St. Augustine qualified Friday to run against Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine.

Neither has any opposition in the primary for the new state Senate District 6, which shifts Thrasher's old district to now includes all of St. Johns and Flagler counties, most of Volusia and Putnam counties.

Thrasher, Rules Committee chairman this past year and a former speaker of the House and state Republican Party chairman, has raised nearly a half million for his re-election. Trued hasn't raised any money.
