What do you see as the top three issues in this race?
Leadership The School Board needs members who have proven leadership abilities. I have served in leadership capacities for over 40 years in my profession and in my community. I have been elected as President of organizations: such as the Green Cove Springs Preservation Society, the Friends of the Library, the VIA(Woman' Club of Green Cove Springs), Presbyterian Women. I am an elected elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Green Cove Springs. As a leader in these and other community organizations, I learned how to work with others to improve the quality of life in my community……a valuable skill for a school board member.
Budget : We Are facing a fund balance crisis in our school system. We need school board members who have experience in understanding how government budgets work. I served on the City Council of Green Cove Springs and was elected Mayor twice. I understand how government budgets work and have ideas on how we can save dollars and put more money into the classroom. As a small business owner (Oakridge Day School), I learned the values of living within the means of a budgetary process .Also, I realize that great schools bring business to our community.
Curriculum: As an educator, who has taught every grade level, I know the challenges that teachers and students face every day in the school environment. As a school board member, I will fight for more teaching and less testing, a curriculum that is rigorous and challenging, and a curriculum that meets the needs of our students and represents the values of our community.
