New mayor, sheriff to be sworn in Wednesday

Lenny Curry and Mike Williams to be inaugurated Wednesday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mayor-elect Lenny Curry and Sheriff-elect Mike Williams will take office Wednesday, marking the first time in 12 years that the city and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office get new leadership at the same time.

The two Republicans chose to have a joint inauguration ceremony at the Jacoby Symphony Hall at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. The ceremony is open to the public, but tickets are required.

Williams will take his oath of office first, before making remarks to the crowd. Mayor-elect Curry will then be sworn in, before making his remarks.

The ceremony will also include remarks by Dr. John Guns of the St. Paul Church of Jacksonville. The pastor is scheduled to deliver "words of Hope and Inspiration -- One City, One Jacksonville."

The ceremony is scheduled to start about 11:20 a.m. News4Jax's live coverage on air and online, anchored by Bruce Hamilton and Melanie Lawson, will begin at 11 a.m.
