Mama Sarah wishes Obama well on Election Day
Sarah Obama says she feels confidence president will win re-election
As President Barack Obama awaits his fate for the next four years in Chicago, his step-grandmother living in rural Kenya wished her grandson and the American people well on Election Day.
"I am grateful that the elections have arrived, I am wishing Barack Obama triumph of the elections," Sarah Obama, now universally known as Mama Sarah, told CNN's David McKenzie in Kenya. "And I wish well the people of America."
Asked about the race that appears to remain neck-in-neck as voters across the United States cast their Election Day ballots, "Mama Sarah" said, "I appreciate that it is a tough race, but I am praying to God that he will win, and I feel confident that he will win because he has worked hard.
Obama's step-grandmother also held prayers with local religious leaders in Kogelo for Obama to win and for the elections to go well.
Then-Illinois Sen. Obama visited his grandmother in 2006.
"He has not had time to come visit, probably he is so busy in America, but I am confident that he will find the time and visit soon."
