Early voting in special legislative begins Saturday

April 9 special election will fill Florida Senate, 2 state House races

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Early voting begins Saturday in one more special election for three northeast Florida seats in the Florida Legislature that opened when Sen. John Thrasher left his senate seat to become president of Florida State University.

In Senate District 6 -- the seat Thrasher left, which which covers of St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties and the northeast corner of Volusia County -- Republican Travis Hutson is facing Democrat David Cox.

In House District 17, Republican St. Johns County Commissioner Cyndi Stevenson faces Judy Stevens, an independent.

In the race for House District 24 -- the seat Hutson is leaving to run for Senate -- Palm Coast Republican Paul Renner is facing Democrat Adam Morley in the general election.

Renner narrowly lost a GOP race for a House seat on Jacksonville's Westside last fall despite being heavily backed by the establishment. 

Early voting in all three races runs from Saturday through April 4, with all precincts open on Election Day, April 7.
