'Vintage' Ovechkin ignites Capitals
Maybe Maria Kirilenko needs to stop playing tennis and start watching hockey. With his new fiancé watching from the stands, Alex Ovechkin put on his most impressive offensive performance of the season Saturday afternoon, scoring his first hat trick in more than two years in the Capitals’ 5-1 win over the Devils. “That must be the reason,” Capitals right wing Troy Brouwer said. “He’s trying to impress.” Ovechkin’s three-goal game was his first since Jan. 22, 2011 and his first hat trick at Verizon Center since Feb. 7, 2010 in the famous Super Bowl Sunday Snowmageddon win over the Penguins. Ovechkin threw himself into the glass after his first goal opened the scoring in the second period, then roared his approval after his next two, breaking into a big gap-toothed smile.
