Bradford To Come Back For 2009 Season

Heisman Winner Could Have Been Top NFL Pick

POSTED: Wednesday, January 14, 2009
UPDATED: 6:15 pm EST January 14, 2009

The University of Oklahoma will have three of its marquee offensive forces back for another season, as Heisman Trophy- winning quarterback Sam Bradford, tight end Jermaine Gresham and offensive tackle Trent Williams each announced their decision to remain with the Sooners for the 2009 campaign.

Bradford was expected to be one of the top picks taken had he decided to enter the 2009 NFL Draft, but the signal-caller has opted to defend his Heisman Trophy and attempt to bring Oklahoma back to the BCS title game.

Bradford, who will be a junior, tossed for 4,720 yards with a nation-best 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions this past season.

"I want to thank everyone who was able to give me the information I needed to make this decision," Bradford said at Wednesday's press conference. "After looking at the information and weighing the pros and cons, I feel it's in my best interest to return to Oklahoma for my junior season."

With Bradford and Gators quarterback Tim Tebow each coming back for another season, the last two Heisman Trophy winners will once again be the focus of the college football world on fall Saturdays.

Oklahoma concluded last season with a disappointing 24-14 setback to Florida in the BCS championship game last week, but with the returns of Williams and Gresham, the Sooners will likely be in another hunt for a national title in 2009.

The versatile Williams, who is the offensive line's only full-time returning starter, began last season at left tackle before starting the final 13 games over on the right side.

Gresham has caught 26 touchdowns over his career with the Sooners, including a 14-TD campaign in 2008.
