City Leaders Try To Rekindle Jags Fever

Group Tries To Fill Stadium For Jaguars-Colts Game In December

The group of businessmen and city leaders that brought an NFL team to Jacksonville is back together to make sure the team stays.

Using the slogan "Revive the Pride," Touchdown Jacksonville's short-term goal is to try and to make sure the stadium is full for the season's only nationally televised game: the Jaguars Dec. 17 matchup with the division-leading Indianapolis Colts.

The group is planning events leading up to that game to include a festival outside the stadium.

"We are going to figure out how to reconnect that passion with this team because it is so important to our community," former Jaguars player Tony Boselli said.

The broader mission is a three-year plan to revive ticket sales for all Jaguars games and, consequently, give team owner Wayne Weaver no reason to entertain any offers to move the team to another city.

"The city has a good investment here. They are the anchor tenant in a city-owed stadium. They pay rent; we have a workable agreement," Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton said. "The city does its part. What is missing is ticket sales, and that is the most visible and tangible way to show community support."

Touchdown Jacksonville said more details about special Jaguars-Colts events and future activities will be announced soon.
