Jacksonville, FL -- Matt Leach kicked a 33-yard field goal with 33 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift the No. 23 Florida Gators over the fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, 16-13, in a Southeastern Conference showdown at Alltel Stadium. Chris Leak was 13-of-23 passing for 235 yards and a touchdown for the Gators (6-3, 4-2 SEC), who have won three straight overall and six in a row versus Georgia in the "world's largest outdoor cocktail party."

Kregg Lumpkin scored the only touchdown for the Bulldogs (7-2, 4-2 SEC), who had a four-game win streak halted.

"It was a normal Florida-Georgia game. I'm proud of our football team," said Florida head coach Ron Zook, who became the first coach in school history to lead the Gators to three consecutive wins over top 11 teams away from Gainesville. "We've got a ways to go, but we're still improving."

Georgia trailed by three before Billy Bennett kicked a 21-yard field goal with 3:49 left to play that capped an 11-play, 77-yard drive and tied the game at 13-13. The Bulldogs had to settle for the field goal when a screen pass by David Greene went off the hands of Jeremy Thomas just shy of the goal line on third-and-goal.

But Florida moved 66 yards in 10 plays to set up Leach for the game-winning kick. A 21-yard sideline pass from Leak to Ben Troupe gave the Gators a first down at the Georgia 46. Florida continued to drive to the Bulldogs' 15, where -- on third-and-three -- DeShawn Wynn was stopped for a loss of two.

Leach then came on the field to try the potential game-winning field goal. The kick appeared to be hooking left as it left Leach's foot, but quickly straightened out and went through the uprights.

"I was just concentrating on the spot and wanted to kick it through," said Leach. "I knew I could kick it through. That's definitely the most important kick I've ever hit."

On its ensuing drive, Georgia could only get as far as its own 48 before time expired.

"We just didn't make enough plays to win it," said Georgia head coach Mark Richt. "You have to give Florida credit.

"We had gotten some momentum back in our favor, but they didn't flinch and they got it in range to make the field goal," added Richt.

Greene finished 18-of-32 passing for 188 yards and an interception.

Florida had the first scoring chance of the day, using its first drive of the game to reach the Georgia 31. However, Leach hit the right upright with a 48-yard field goal attempt to leave the game scoreless with 7:33 left in the first quarter.

Early in the second, the Bulldogs drove down to the Gators' 14, but Bennett missed wide left on a 32-yard field goal attempt.

Florida then took over at its own 20 with 11:49 left in the second. After completing a 14-yard pass to Baker on the first play of the drive, Leak then connected with Troupe on a 37-yard strike to the Georgia 29. On third-and-nine from the 28, Leak threw a pass intended for Baker that fell incomplete. However, a Georgia player picked up the ball and threw it out of the end zone, resulting in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that kept the Gators' drive alive and gave them a first-and-goal at the 14.

But Florida could not punch it into the end zone and had to settle for a 24- yard field goal by Leach that made it a 3-0 game with 7:28 remaining in the second quarter.

Georgia had a chance to go ahead late in the first half, as it had a first- and-goal at the Gators' nine-yard line. But a false start penalty and a seven- yard sack taken by Greene moved the Bulldogs back to the 21. Greene connected on a screen pass to Damien Gary on third down, but Gary was stopped at the three. Bennett then came on to kick a 21-yard field goal as time expired to make it a 3-3 game at halftime.

The game remained tied until Florida put together a quick scoring drive midway through the third quarter. With the Gators facing a second-and-10 from their own 35, a scrambling Leak hit Ciatrick Fason with a 28-yard pass to the Georgia 37. Two plays later, Leak threw a screen pass to Carlos Perez, who raced down the right sideline for a 34-yard TD pass that gave Florida a 10-3 lead with seven minutes left in the third quarter.

An 18-yard field goal by Leach with 12:10 remaining in the fourth quarter put the Gators up 13-3. The 11-play, 84-yard scoring drive was highlighted by a 42-yard pass from Leak to Dallas Baker that moved Florida down to the Bulldogs' 20.

Georgia pulled to within 13-10 on a one-yard touchdown run by Lumpkin on third-and-goal with 9:18 left in the fourth. The Bulldogs started the 10-play, 65-yard scoring drive on their own 35 after Matt Piotrowicz's kickoff went out of bounds. Michael Cooper kept the march going with a one-yard gain on third- and-one near midfield. A five-yard facemask penalty on Florida also assisted Georgia on the drive.

Zook is 5-1 (.833) against teams in the top 11 away from The Swamp. Prior to Zook's arrival, Florida was 22-50-2 (.310) against such teams on the road and at neutral sites.

Georgia leads the all-time series, 44-35-2, despite the six straight losses to Florida. The Gators have won 13 of the last 14 meetings with the Bulldogs.
