JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Southern League announced Wednesday that six Jacksonville Suns have been named to the South Division squad for the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game, which will be hosted by the Suns on July 17 at Bragan Field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Outfielder Jake Marisnick, as well as starting pitchers Adam Conley, Sam Dyson and Jay Jackson, along with reliever Michael Brady, have been selected to play for the South Division squad. Former Suns outfielder Kyle Jensen was also tabbed a Southern League All-Star but will not participate due to his promotion to Triple-A New Orleans. The South Division squad will also be led by Suns skipper Andy Barkett.

Marisnick, rated by Baseball America as the Marlins’ fourth-best prospect prior to this season, has compiled a .285 average (59-207), adding 33 runs, ten homers and 39 RBI. Dating back to May 1, when Marisnick joined the Suns after missing the first month of the year due to injury, Marisnick ranks second in the league in total bases (105) and RBI, tied for second in homers, as well as fourth in slugging percentage (.507) and extra-base hits (21).

Coming into this year as the tenth-best prospect in the Marlins’ system per Baseball America, Conley owns a 7-3 record and 4.04 ERA (37 ER in 82.1 IP) in his 16 starts for Jacksonville. The southpaw comes into today’s action tied for third in the Southern League in strikeouts (80) and tied for seventh in wins. The left-hander was selected by the Marlins in the second round of the 2011 draft out of Washington State University.

The 25-year-old Dyson has compiled a 3-7 record and 2.74 ERA (22 ER in 72.1 IP) in his 15 games, 14 of which were starts, for the Suns this year. 2013 marks the second straight mid-season All-Star selection for the right-hander, after being honored as an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star in 2012 while with Double-A New Hampshire. Dyson was acquired by the Marlins off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on January 30, 2013.

This is the second Southern League All-Star selection for Jackson, who was previously selected in 2009 while with the Tennessee Smokies. Jackson in 12 starts in 2013 for Jacksonville has recorded a 2-5 mark and 3.33 ERA (25 in 67.2 IP), and ranks tied for third in the circuit in WHIP (1.05), as well as seventh in batting average against (.202). Jackson signed with the Marlins organization as a Minor League free agent on April 12, 2013 and was assigned Jacksonville.

Brady, who has held the role of closer on the Suns this year, has accrued a 1-2 record and 2.27 ERA (8 ER in 31.2 IP) and has converted saves in 12 of his 14 opportunities this season in his team-high 29 appearances. In save opportunities this season, Brady has recorded a 0.61 ERA (1 ER in 14.2 IP), while opposing hitters have accumulated just a .163 average (8-49) against the California native.

Despite being promoted to Triple-A New Orleans on June 24, Jensen continues to lead the Southern League with his 16 home runs in his 70 games for Jacksonville. The 25-year-old also recorded a .237 average (58-245), scoring 43 runs and driving in 42 RBI before joining the Zephyrs. Between June 1-22, Jensen’s nine longballs in that span ranked tied for second in Minor League Baseball, behind only Triple-A Buffalo INF Mauro Gomez.

The Suns will host the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game at Bragan Field on July 17 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at JaxSuns.com, or at the box office at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
