Saints quarterback Drew Brees has agreed to terms on a five-year, $100 million deal with $40 million in the first year of his contract in 2012.

"Deal is Done! Love you, Who Dat Nation. See you soon," Brees posted on his Twitter feed at 2 p.m. ET Friday.

Brees was designated the Saints' franchise player in February and sometimes-icy negotiations became contentious as reports surfaced that the two sides were far apart on the total guaranteed salary in the first three years of the deal.

The contract includes $61 million in the first three years, all guaranteed, which is a record for any NFL contract.

The $100 million total value of the deal trumps the five-year, $96 million contract Peyton Manning signed with the Broncos in March, making Brees the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Brees is coming off of a record-setting season in which he broke Dan Marino's record for passing yards with 5,476 and completed 71.2 percent of his passes, breaking his own record (70.6 in 2009). Brees and the Saints set a record for total offense, gaining 7,474 to beat the 2000 St. Louis Rams' mark of 7.075.
