Next year's Winter Classic will feature a matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at the University of Michigan.
Mlive.com, citing a source, said the NHL, Red Wings and University of Michigan have finalized a deal to hold the sixth Winter Classic at Michigan's Big House.
The Red Wings and Maple Leafs, Original Six rivals, will square off on Jan. 1, 2013. The game is expected to draw a crowd of 110,000-plus at Michigan Stadium.
An official announcement is expected during early February. According to the report, the NHL did not want to announce the deal during the All-Star break or while Red Wings were on a road trip the first week of February.
A rink is also expected to be constructed at Comerica Park -- home of the Detroit Tigers -- to host the Winter Classic Alumni Game.
The New York Rangers edged the host Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in this year's Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park.
The 2008 Winter Classic drew a record 71,217 for a matchup between the host Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Michigan's famed Big House drew a crown of 113,411 for a college game between rivals Michigan State and Michigan in December 2010.
