The Florida Panthers Wednesday morning recalled goalie Jacob Markstrom from their AHL affiliate in San Antonio. The Panthers have lost five in a row and lead the NHL in goals allowed. Both starting goaltenders Jose Theodore and Scott Clemensen have been struggling with a 3.37 and 4.32 goals-against-average, respectively. Theodore, 36, is 4-6-2 and in the last season of a two-year deal. Clemmensen, 35, is 0-1-2 and has a year remaining on his contract. Markstrom, 23 has longed been projected as the Panthers' future starting goaltender. Markstrom is expected to start Thursday night in Philadelphia against the Flyers. Markstrom, a second-round pick by the Panthers (31st overall) in 2008, is 16-15-2 for the Rampage this season with three shutouts in 33 starts with a 2.65 GAA and a .920 save percentage. He’s 10-5-2 in games when he has made 30 saves or more. The 6-foot-6 Swede has allowed two goals or less goals in 11 of his last 16 starts. Markstrom, who was called up briefly in each of the last two seasons, has a 2-5-1 NHL record with a 2.70 GAA.
