Jags issue statements about Mularkey's arrest
Mike Mularkey's son arrested arrested
The Jacksonville Jaguars issued statements Saturday after new head coach Mike Mularkey's son was arrested for cocaine possession in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Chapel Hill police say Shane Michael Mularkey was among the three arrested. The 21-year-old Mularkey played in all 13 games for the Tar Heels in 2009, but school spokesman Kevin Best said he left the team after the 2010 season.
The statements issued:
Mike Mularkey, Jaguars head coach: "I am grateful for the support that I’ve received from the Jaguars family and apologize for any distraction. We are attempting to learn more about the situation and I appreciate everyone’s understanding that this is a private family matter, and therefore cannot add anything further at this time."
Shad Khan, Jaguars owner: "Mike reached out to me this afternoon. I expressed to Mike that I share his concern for his son and the situation, and I let Mike know he has my personal support. It has no bearing on the respect and trust I have for Mike as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. We simply hope for the best for Mike and his family."
Gene Smith, Jaguars general manager: "Mike contacted me this afternoon, which I appreciated. This is a personal and private family matter, and we will be there to help Mike and his family in any way possible."
