New York Mets reliever Tim Byrdak will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair torn meniscus cartilage in his left knee and will miss six weeks, according to general manager Sandy Alderson.

Byrdak was projected to be the lone left-handed pitcher out of the bullpen for the Mets this season.

The lefty specialist posted a 2-1 record with a 3.82 ERA in 72 appearances for the Mets in 2011.
