River Run is to honor 'streakers'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The 43 "streakers" -- those who have run each one of the previous 34 River Runs -- will be honored this year in a special pre-race ceremony on Saturday, Race Director Doug Alred said.

Each streaker's name will be announced and they will be presented with a personalized plaque at in a 15 minute ceremony beginning at 7:45 a.m. at the race starting line. The 15K race begins at 8:30 a.m.

"This is our way to personally congratulate the Streakers for reaching another GATE River Run milestone on the 35th year of this event," Alred said. "They are a very special group and we are proud to honor them."

Alred also announced that entries are continuing on a record pace, and registration will close when 20,000 entries are received for the 15K. He urged anyone who has not yet registered to do so this week in the event that entries are capped prior to the race.
