Baltimore Orioles' designated hitter Jim Thome passed Sammy Sosa for seventh place on the all-time home run list with his solo shot in the fourth inning of Friday's game at the Cleveland Indians.
Thome has 610 career home runs, 20 behind Ken Griffey Jr., who is sixth. Thome, 41, has six homers this year.
Thome, who spent his first 12 seasons in Cleveland, hit a 3-2 pitch off Derek Lowe 418 feet into the bleachers in right field. It was Thome's first home run since June 23 when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies.
