Bolles falls in championship game again

ORLANDO – The 4A football championship game produced a familiar result with familiar opponents as Booker T. Washington beat Bolles for the third consecutive year in the championship game.

Bolles tied the game at 7 on the first play of the 2nd quarter as Christian Bermudez
scored from six yards out. The Tornadoes answered with a 72 yard TD pass from
Maurice Alexander to Vaquan Small to take a 13-7 lead at halftime. The Tornadoes
would never trail on their way to a 54-35 win.

Bolles coach Corky Rogers still proud of the effort from his kids this season.


"We didn't lose because we didn't play hard and work hard, Rogers said. We're proud of our effort. Give Booker T. Washington the credit tonight. But I am proud of our senior class for doing this and getting here four years in a row.

Mark Walton accounted for 275 total yards and four touchdowns to lead Booker T. Washington.


Walton, who is verbally committed to the Miami Hurricanes, rushed for 186 yards and added 89 receiving yards for the Tornadoes.
   
It was the third consecutive title for Booker T. Washington (13-0) - all against Bolles.
   
Walton's three fourth-quarter touchdowns kept the Tornadoes in front to eventually break open a game that was 26-21 going into the final stanza. He had a touchdown catch of 30 yards to give Booker T. Washington a 33-21 lead and his 45-yard TD catch with less than four minutes remaining in the game gave the Tornadoes a 47-28 advantage.
   
Booker T. Washington's Maurice Alexander was 15 of 20 for 331 yards and four touchdowns. Vaquan Smalls had five receptions for 154 yards and two scores.
   
Joe Edden threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns for Bolles (10-3) but also threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. Christian Bermudez had 99 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs.

Bolles finishes the season 11-3.
