Bolles playing for 12th state title

Bulldogs have most titles in state history

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Bolles Bulldogs will try to add their 12th state title tonight in Orlando against Booker T. Washington (Miami).

Bolles beat Washington for the Class 4A title last year 33-25. Bolles scored the last 21 points to rally from a 13 point deficit in the second half. Head coach Corky Rogers knows it will be another hard-fought contest.

"I'm proud of our kids for what we've accomplished. I know we are going to come play hard, I know that, but if that's good enough we will find out," Rogers said. "They are that good. They've got 19 juniors and 19 seniors on that team. They're sitting with a well-coached team. It's going to be a real battle."

Bolles is led on offense by quarterback Colby Peters and running back Arterrious MItchell, who had four touchdowns against Yulee in the state semifinals. Peters was hurt for much of the regular season but has come back to lead the playoff drive for the Bulldogs.

"We know what they are going to bring," Peters said. "We know what to expect. We're just going to have to apply the things we work on in practice. We have to win the turnover battle, keep possession of the ball and put up points."

Washington goes into the game as the favorite for the second consecutive year ,but that didn't bother Bolles last year, and Rogers believes there is something special about this year's team.

"I really believe we have some talent," Rogers said. "But I think it's the character of the kids. Different people have made plays in different situations to keep us there. They've amazed me with what they've done. I'm not sure this isn't one of our more enjoyable years as far as what they've accomplished."

Rogers and his players will find out starting tonight at 7 p.m. in the Citrus Bowl how special this year can be. Stay tuned to Channel 4 and News4Jax.com for complete coverage.
