Center Brad Meester starts his 13th season with the Jaguars. The veteran offensive lineman was singled out by Mike Mularkey after practice today as one of the main leaders on and off the field, something that Mularkey said he is going to need from Meester this season.

A second round draft pick out of Northern Iowa in 2000, Meester has played for every head coach the Jaguars ever had.

He has started 207 career games, including the last 88 in a row.

"It's hard to believe how far this has come" said Meester, "Coming out of Northern Iowa, I was just hoping to get past the first year honestly."

Meester, who is married with 6 daughters, said that he leaned on his family to help make this decision.  "Family is everything to me, and it is time for me to see them excel in school and watch their sporting events.  I think that is going to bring a lot of enjoyment to me."

Meesters' teammates said that they will feel his absence right away. "He is the point guard of the offense, so to speak," said tight end Marcedes Lewis.  "He is one of the guys that I learn from as far as how I act on and off the field."

Maurice Jones-Drew has played with Meester for all of his 8 seasons with the Jaguars and said that a lot of people have no idea how much he means to the franchise.  "You can't put into words what he has done for me and this team."
