JU's Swisher Gym undergoing facelift

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This past season was a very good year for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs at Jacksonville University. In order to keep that momentum going, Swisher Gym is getting a facelift this summer.

This past spring women’s head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin guided the Dolphins to their first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. On the men’s side Tony Jasick was named the A-Sun coach of the year. When both teams return to the floor this fall Swisher Gym is going to look a lot different.

“We had momentum with both basketball programs this past year,” said JU Athletic Director Alex Ricker-Gilbert. “So to go into the summer and build off that momentum and have a new fresh facility to come back to for the 2016-17 season, that will be really enhance the experience.”

All of the walls have been painted white which brightens the entire space. There are already windows on the north side of the gym and to bring in even more light windows will also be added above the bleachers on the south end of the gym.

There will also be brand new video scoreboards that will be ready for the start of next season.

“Our league is on ESPN3 so every game is viewed nationally,” said Jasick. “For us to go through these renovations is really going to help Jacksonville University.”

Phase 1 of this renovation will be completed by August 15.
