Brewery, distillery team up for Georgia-Florida block party

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While football is the No. 1 priority on Georgia-Florida weekend, but entertainment before and after the game is also important.

Intuition Ale Works Brewery and Manifest Distilling, which opened next to each other last month on Bay Street -- within view of EverBank Field -- are giving fans a couple spots to try out this weekend.

"We've got 20 taps. All the beer we make here. a lot of the options of beer you won't find anywhere else," said Riley Leuthold, taproom manager.

Leuthold said they're prepared for what will surely be their biggest weekend ever.

"We have a lot of space, so it doesn't get shoulder-to-shoulder packed," Leuthold said. "It does get busy but people don't have to wait very long for beers, which is a good sign."

Not in the mood for beer? Just walk next door to Manifest Distilling, where News4Jax learned founder David Cohen was making his first-ever batch of gin this week.

"If there's a really high concentration of oils, it will turn really cloudy. So what we're doing is checking to make sure that at the point at which it stops, we start moving from that first cut into the next cut," Cohen said.

He said the gin probably won't be bottled by this weekend, but you will be able to buy and drink their vodka and whisky.

The two establishments are teaming up Saturday for a Georgia-Florida block party, including music, a full bar and food truck outside. Black Sheep always has food available inside Intuition.

"We're able to pool our resources and kind of prepare, so we're ready for the crowd that we expect," Cohen said. "We're looking forward to seeing how the public reacts to our space and get people through here."

Intuition will even offer a specialty beer brewed just for this weekend. "Backyard Brawl" features beer from Swamp Head Brewery in Gainesville and Terrapin Brewery in Athens.
