TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With the shifting track of Hurricane Irma creating more uncertainty, Florida State has cancelled their game against University Louisiana-Monroe this weekend.
FSU had the game originally scheduled for 7:30 in Tallahassee and shifted the start time to 12:15 hoping to play the game and accommodate their fans who were willing to travel to the Doak-Campbell Stadium. Seminole officials decided on Thursday night that they would no doubt be causing more issues for fans and Florida residents than creating a fun, football environment and called the game off.

Florida State was paying ULM to come as a visiting opponent, but no word on what sort of payment will be made to the Warhawks athletic department.
The ‘Noles will now play their second game of the season September 16th against Miami at home. If that’s not possible, the two schools have talked about moving the game to October 7th, a bye week for both football teams.
The FSU campus will be closed from Friday through Monday; so all athletic contests have been cancelled for the weekend.
Trying to avoid any violation of the “extra benefits” rule that is strongly enforced by the NCAA, the ‘Noles received an exemption from the athletic ruling body to help some of the families of players at FSU to get out of danger.
“The NCAA has allowed us to help some of the families out of there that didn’t have the resources to get them out -- some of the kids and children -- which we have gladly done, and will do,” Head Coach Jimbo Fisher said.
“This is a football game. That’s life and death, and very critical. It can be very disturbing, but our guys have handled it very well.”
