Ed White renames football field as high school football returns

Football Friday on 4 debuts next Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ed White High School named their field after longtime athletic director Johnny Gwynes Jr. Thursday night.

Gwynes was a coach, teacher and athletic director at the Westside high school for 36 years.

Former Ed White principal Jim Clark presented Gywnes with a plaque in a ceremony before the game and a sign was placed on the field where the team enters for play.

Following the ceremony, the Commanders hosted Fletcher in a preseason game.

It was the debut for Kevin Sullivan at Ed White. He spent the last 20 years as head coach at Atlantic Coast and Andrew Jackson.

The Senators ruined the party beating the Commanders 24-0.

The season starts for real next Friday in Florida while teams in Southeast Georgia start their regular season this Friday.
