Local high school football playoff landscape

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Several of our local schools have advanced past the first round of the high school football playoffs.

Class 7A:

Robert E. Lee: Friday night was the Generals first home playoff game since 1996. Lee had no issues getting past Leon winning 42-0. Next Friday, the Generals will be back at “The Backyard” to face Columbia (Lake City).

Bartram Trail: The Bears got off to a slow start before beating Ocoee 52-13. Next Friday Bartram Trail will be on the road for a 1-7A quarterfinal rematch against Buchholz (Gainesville). Back on Oct. 14 the Bears loss to the Bobcats 17-10.

Class 6A:

St. Augustine: Thanks to a 214 yard and two touchdown effort by senior running back Jahq Russell, the Yellow Jackets beat Niceville 35-28 on Friday night. Next up for St. Augustine is a home regional semifinal game next Friday against Crestview.

Class 5A:

Ribault at Ponte Vedra: One of our local teams will be going home next Friday. The Trojans held off Bishop Kenny 14-13 to advance to the regional semifinals. They’ll travel to Ponte Vedra where the Sharks took care of Yulee 51-19 in their first round match up.

Clay at Baker County: Clay was involved in a high scoring affair in their first round matchup against North Marion. The Blue Devils got off to a fast start before holding on to win 41-38. Baker County scored 28 points in the second quarter in route to their 35-7 win over Belleview. Baker County won its regular season matchup against Clay 28-14.

Class 4A:

Raines at Bolles: Neither Raines or Bolles was tested during their first round matchups. Three weeks ago these two teams played a nail biter with Bolles coming out on top 24-23. Next Friday's game should be a great one.

Class 3A:

Trinity Christian: The drive for a fourth straight state Championship continues for the Conquerors. Their first round match up against Taylor County was over by the end of the first quarter. Next up for Verlon Dorminey and company is a home game against Florida State University (Tallahassee).

Class 2A:

University Christian: Next Friday the Christians will be at home against North Florida Christian (Tallahassee). UC is a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

Georgia:

Class AAA:

Pierce County: After beating Westside (Macon) 41-34 in round one, Pierce County will host Bremen next Friday.

Class AAAAA:

Ware County: The Gators got past Ola 35-27 in round one. Next Friday, Ware County will be at home against Loganville.

Class AAAAAA:

Glynn Academy: The Terrors won Friday's home playoff game against Jonesboro easily by a score of 45-3. Next Friday Glynn Academy will be at home against Allatoona (Acworth, GA). Allatoona beat Glynn Academy in the state title game last year.
