After an 11-day hiatus for finals, the JU men's basketball team returns to the court Tuesday to host Wofford in the Veterans Memorial Arena at 7:15 p.m.
Admission is free as part of the Sixth annual "Free Night" sponsored by Sea Best Seafood. Fans can also watch the JU women take on Troy at 5 p.m. Parking is free for the doubleheader in Lot Z of the arena complex.
"We are excited to play again," JU head coach Cliff Warren said. "This break has helped us take care of our academics, heal and refocus for the final set of non-conference games. Wofford is a lot like us so they will be a challenge. I know our team will be ready for the task."
The Dolphins hit the court again following a 91-74 loss at South Carolina Dec. 7. The Gamecocks shot 71.9 percent (23-32) from the floor in the first half, including making 6 of 7 three-pointers, to snap a two-game skid.
Freshman Marcellous Bell scored 17 points off the bench to lead the Dolphins offense. Bell is the fifth different newcomer to lead JU in scoring in the last six games.
Freshman Jarvis Haywood added 13 points, while junior Keith McDougald scored 12. Haywood has scored in double-figures in the last five games he has played in to pace the JU offense at 11.1 points a contest. McDougald is second at 10 points a contest.
The Terriers (4-6) are back after their finals break following a 63-56 loss in the SoCon opener at Davidson Dec. 8. Taylor Wagener (14) and Indiana Faithfull (10) each scored double-digits off the bench to lead the Wofford offense.
Karl Cochran paces the Terriers' offense with a 15.6 scoring average. Lee Skinner is second at 11.4 points and first in rebounds with a 6.7 clip.
Wofford and JU have each won a game at home in the all-time series. The Terriers won last year's meeting at home, 63-57, while the Dolphins earned a 97-59 victory in the first contest in Jacksonville in 1982. All three games have occurred on Dec. 18 (1982, 2011, 2012).
