Florida Gators rout Hurricanes 15-3 to start CWS

Florida ties College World Series record by scoring 11 runs in the 4th inning

OMAHA, Neb. – Big innings and defense has been how the Florida Gators baseball team made it to the college world series in Omaha.

That continued against Miami on Saturday as Florida scored 11 runs in the fourth inning, tying an NCAA record on the way to a 15-3 win to begin the college world series.

The Gators trailed 2-1 going into the fourth on two sacrifice files by the Hurricanes before sending 16 batters to the plate, with seven of them getting hits.

"We came out a little nervous, and I certainly did not see an 11-run inning in the fourth," Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan said. "I can't say enough about our approach there. We stayed in the middle of the field. The first few innings we tried to do too much. The big inning certainly was the difference."

Josh Tobias and Peter Alonso had 3 RBIs each as eight Gators drive in runs against Miami in the win.

Florida starter Logan Shore pitched five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out six in the win.  It was the 10th consecutive post-season win for the Gators, including going 6-0 so far in the NCAA tournament.  Florida has outscored their opponents 68-15 over those games.

Next up for the Gators is Virginia, who were 5-3 winners over Arkansas, on Monday night.
