Changes coming to The Players

Parking only available online; Veteran's Appreciation Concert at 17th hole

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.

The world's best golfers will tee off at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach next week, but there are some changes in store that fans need to know.

The Players runs from May 10 through 15. In the past, people have been able to buy parking passes at the supermarket, but this year parking passes are only available online

"The other thing to think about, is plan your transportation. Driving yourself in a car is not a great idea," said Matt Rapp, executive director of The Players.  "Carpooling is a good idea. There's lots of shuttles.  Believe it or not, I bike to The Players."

TPC will continue its tradition of the Military Appreciation Ceremony.

It's an event to honor the men and women in uniform with several different military appreciation activities and programs.

This year Toby Keith will perform at the event.

The ceremony and concert will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday and be at the 17th hole.

"His manager came in and said it's going to be the best venue he's ever played," said Rapp.
The event is free to any Tuesday ticket holder, all all members of the military can get a free ticket.

As a play on Keith's song "Red Solo Cup," Rapp says there will be souvenir cups for sale at the ceremony with The Players logo on them.

Organizers of The Players said the event is a great way to showcase the community.

"That goes from if you see a piece of garbage pick it up...to showing the most welcoming hospitality that we have here," said Rapp. "We just want to make sure that people understand, that in the spirit of golf, you're cheering for success. You're not cheering against somebody. And you're not cheering for failure."
