Handcrafted cocktails, Kansas City burnt ends and more!

Vendors at The Players Championship serving wide variety of food, drinks

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The Players Championship has a wide variety of food and beverage options, including handcrafted cocktails, slow-cooked barbecue and paninos with a 40-year history.

Chances are if you have a drink in your hand at The Players Championship this weekend, it contains Grey Goose.

Head of marketing for Grey Goose, Jason McCarthy, told News4Jax they go through a tremendous amount of vodka. Nearly a thousand cases of Grey Goose is poured over the week -- That's enough vodka to fill around 30 bathtubs or a large swimming pool. But at TPC, it usually just goes into a small cup.

And if you're not drinking the Grey Goose, then you're likely helping William Hill Winery make its numbers.

“Here in the wine lounge we will see anywhere from 800 bottles to 800 cases of wine being poured this week,” Jillian Hill said.

The view that comes with that glass of wine isn't bad at all. This year, The Players offers even more areas that don't require a special pass to get in, and there are more food options.

This is the first time that Hawkers Asian Street Fare has set up shop at the players. Casey Buckley with Hawkers told News4Jax that they know what to expect and they're well prepared.

“Every day we are cutting two to three hundred pounds of beef for our beef skewers, a couple hundred pounds of chicken skewers and 40 to 50 pounds of cod for fish tacos,” Buckley said.

Back for the third year is Trasca & Co., featuring a huge crowd favorite, the buffalo blue. Sara Frasca from Trasca said it’s an old family recipe.

“My family has served these panino sandwiches for over 40 years, and I'm the third generation to serve them,” Frasca said. “I do so humbly and with a lot of passion.”

Another popular pop-up that can be found at The Players is Mojo's BBQ. They went through more than 2,000 pulled pork sandwiches last year and that wasn't even the restaurant’s best seller.

Mojo’s Dana Peterson said they’ll have their most popular menu item will be on hand.

“Kansas City burnt ends. Every time they're not at an event, people say ‘where are the burnt ends?’ So we’re feeding the people this year and giving them what they want,” Peterson said.

For Peterson and her staff, The Players means long work days and enough meat to fill a pickup truck.
“I get up around 4 a.m. and leave out of here around 7 a.m.,” Jason Rust with Mojo’s said.

For those planning on drinking alcohol, there’s something important to remember -- make sure you are also drinking water. It’s going to be blazing hot on the course the next few days. And while you can bring food into the players if it’s wrapped in clear plastic wrap, you cannot bring in drinks. Once you buy a bottle of water though, there are plenty of places to refill it.
