8 area high school football teams advance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fletcher, Columbia, Bishop Kenny, Bolles, Yulee and University Christian advanced to the third round of the playoffs in Florida. Camden County and Ware County moved into the third round in Georgia.

Fletcher continued their road warrior ways with a 28-6 win over Sanford Seminole. The Senators have won five road games in the playoffs the last two years. Fletcher will host Apopka in the 8A regional finals.

Columbia jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead behind two Ronald Timmons touchdowns on their way to a 34-8 win over St. Augustine. The Tigers travel to Navarre next week in the 6A regional finals.

Bishop Kenny scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter and beat Baker County 44-23. The Crusaders will host Tallahassee Godby next Friday in the 5A regional finals at 7:30.

In 4A, Yulee held off East Gadsden 16-13 while Bolles scored late to beat South Sumter 31-24. Bolles will travel to Yulee next Friday in the state semifinals.

University Christian pulled the upset over powerful North Florida Christian 44-31. The Christians will travel to Warner Christian next Friday with the winner headed to the state championship.

In Georgia, Camden County rolled over East Coweta 34-14. They will host Norcross in the AAAAAA regional finals after winning a coin flip Saturday morning.

In AAAAA, Ware County survived Union Grove 20-13 and will host Stephenson next Friday night in Waycross.
