After being carted off the field late in Sunday’s loss to San Diego, Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns is doing “good” according to head coach Gus Bradley.
“Any time it’s a team member that’s out on the field and we’re not sure what’s going on,” said Bradley. “Our medical staff did a great job with it and how they responded to me after the situation in the locker room. I’m just glad, I think we’re all relieved that he’s good.”

Hurns was released from the hospital Sunday night after suffering a concussion. He hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game at Tennessee and is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol. He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. Jaguars safety Josh Evans also suffered a concussion against the Chargers and he too is in concussion protocol.
Hurns has never missed a game through the first season-and-a-half of his career.
If he’s unable to play Bradley is fully confident in Marqise Lee’s ability to handle a larger role. “I think he’s gaining confidence,” said Bradley. “It’s probably similar to Julius Thomas. There’s a time period when you come back from your injury you’re still working some things out. He just keeps getting better and better. Hopefully he hits full stride. He appears to be healthy and he feels healthy, so just try to incorporate him more.”
Lee is often the forgotten man in the Jaguars trio of second year receivers. The former USC product was drafted ahead of Hurns and Robinson but has struggled to stay on the field due to a variety of injuries.
“He’s a guy that you enjoy throwing to as a quarterback because he’s so fast and he’s able to create separation pretty easily because he can start and stop really well,” said quarterback Blake Bortles when Lee returned from a hamstring injury earlier this month.
In limited action Lee has five catches for 51 yards this season. A lot of that is due to the fact he’s only played in five games. With Lee, Hurns, Robinson, Julius Thomas and Rashad Greene all reasonably healthy the Jaguars also have an abundance of pass catchers vying for Bortles attention. Bradley doesn’t think the lack of targets have frustrated Lee.
“When I talk to him, he’s great,” said Bradley. “He’s a competitor, though. What he says and what he feels may be different, but to me, when I have conversations with him, he just wants to keep getting better every day and keep improving. For him, it is real and he trusts it’ll come for him, the opportunity will come.”
