Jaguars open 2014 training camp

EverBank announces new 10-year partnership with Jags

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Another year of Jaguars football is underway at EverBank Field, with the first practice of training camp held Friday morning. More than 1,600 fans were in attendance to watch the team compete at the Florida Blue practice fields.

"I think we challenged our guys from the last practice we had back in June to now to really compete and come in ready to go in shape," said Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley. "I really liked the way in our structure of practice."

Bradley said he was not pleased with the amount of penalties but liked his team's competitive spirit.

"I loved how they came out right from the start," Bradley said. "They came out and you could see they were going to capture this practice. Extremely, extremely competitive."

Friday's practice saw the return of wide receivers Cecil Shorts, Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson. The trio missed minicamp and most of organized team activities while recovering from injuries. Shorts left Friday's practice with tightness in his hamstring.

Bradley named Chad Henne the starter for the 2014 season, but with the emergence of rookie Blake Bortles, Bradley was asked about a potential quarterback competition.

"It's Chad (Henne)," Bradley said. "It's Chad. We feel good about him. We're looking to try and get this team to be an experienced team that plays fast. But I do believe Chad has made strides to be that experienced, fast type of player."

Jaguars fans showed their support Friday morning by coming out to watch the team get back to work.

"We're stoked to have football back," fan John Port said.

"I was here at 9 this morning, before 9 actually. That's how excited, before anyone was in the parking lot," season ticket holder Ian Richards said.

Bradley gave the players a pep talk, and they responded.

"Definitely the energy we as a team can feed off of, and hopefully we can build off the things that he brings to the table," defensive end Tyson Alualu said.

Then the players took their time making the rounds to sign autographs.

"Our owner, our organization has done so much for the team, and we just want to do our part and win some games," Alualu said.

"I think the hopes are high and we want to live up to them," owner Shad Khan said.

Khan also made the rounds to the fans, hyped up about football season and Saturday's Mega Event at EverBank Field.

"I'm full of anticipation, but I've had a sneak preview," Khan said of the new video boards. "They're going to blow your mind. Be sure you're here tomorrow."

Also Friday, EverBank announced a new 10-year partnership with the Jaguars.

"The buzz is all around Jax, and we should be excited as a community and city for world-class stuff coming here," fan Willie Wells said.

The Jaguars return to practice on Saturday morning at 9:55. That session is open to the public.
