Jaguars vs. JFRD charity softball

The annual charity event brings attention to many firefighters union charities

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While the Jaguars front office work through the NFL draft, some of the Jaguars players took time to play in the annual Jaguars vs. JFRD softball game.

About 15 Jaguar players took on firefighters from all over Duval County at Sessions Stadium on the campus of Jacksonville University Saturday afternoon.  The game benefits local firefighters union #122 charities.

Led by Blake Bortles, whose brother Colby plays baseball for Ole Miss, the Jaguars quarterback says that most of the baseball talent went to his sibling.

"I had to borrow his glove," said Bortles.  "I hope all of the errors are out of it.  But hopefully I'll hit a home run and tell him all about it."

Bortles was in a much different position a year ago as he waited for his name to be called at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the 2014 NFL Draft.  It is something that the 2nd year quarterback says is still a little different.

"This is the first time I have watched the draft from this perspective, so it's cool to see what Gus(Bradley), Dave(Caldwell) and Shad(Khan) are doing and who they are bringing in.

Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith was in the same position as Bortles last year, but after being drafted, he realized very quickly that he needed to get on board with the new culture head coach Gus Bradley was imparting on his team.

"We are on a fast train and you have to jump on and be ready to go right now.  I think the rookies will be ready as soon as they come in."
