JU stifles Stetson 30-7

DELAND, Fla. – The Jacksonville University defense stepped up to put the clamps on Stetson as the Dolphins picked up their sixth consecutive win, a 30-7 victory over Pioneer Football League opponent Stetson (2-5, 0-3) here Saturday.

The Dolphin defense held Stetson scoreless in the first half and was able to make up for an uncharacteristic spate of turnovers by the offense which got going in the second quarter. And although JU put up 536 yards in offense, the 30 points wasn't acceptable to coach Kerwin Bell.

"It's frustrating, that's not how we play offense,'' Bell said after his team went to 6-1 on the season and 5-0 in the PFL.

Included in the total were 109 rushing and 119 yards receiving by running back Ulysses Bryant, who rushed for more than 100 yards for the fifth time this season. He scored once on a 2-yard run.

Running back Frantz Caudio had a 7-yard touchdown run and place kicker Brandon Behr had three field goals. The offensive effort was hampered by four interceptions from JU quarterback Kade Bell, who was 26 of 40 for 332 yards.The JU defense intercepted two more passes giving it 16 for the season which ties the school record for a season and held Stetson to 187 total yards (98 rushing and 89 passing).
"Give all the credit to the defense,'' Bell said. "They kept us in another one, but it's another win.''

One of those was a pick-6 by safety Dallas Jackson who intercepted Stetson quarterback Ryan Tentler pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown and a 10-0 lead. Linebacker DJ Howard had the other.

The sole Stetson score came on a one-play, 22-yard drive on a pass from Tentler to Mike Yonker after a JU turnover.
