Justin Blackmon hits the field

1st-round draft pick attends first practice

Justin Blackmon was all smiles as he made his way to the field for his first training camp practice.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Justin Blackmon signed his contract Monday night and then joined his teammates for training camp Tuesday morning.

Blackmon took part in individual drills, then spent most of his time working with receivers coach Jerry Sullivan. Blackmon is not allowed to wear pads until his fourth day at training camp.

Head coach Mike Mularkey said that Blackmon will not play Friday night against the Giants.

Blackmon spent his time in Oklahoma working out with friends to stay in shape.

"It was hard. I wanted to be here I didn't want to be behind," Blackmon said. "I want to be out on the field, so I'm happy to be here."

The Jaguars and Blackmon finally agreed to a 4-year, $18.5 million contract late Monday night, and Blackmon signed the contract early Tuesday morning. The two sides had argued about guaranteed money after Blackmon pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI in Oklahoma.

Blackmon is now counted on to improve the Jaguars' ineffective passing game.

Mularkey said he has noticed a difference since Blackmon's arrest.

"I believe since the incident, his approach to everything he was doing on the field is different, so that was a good thing," Mularkey said. "I can't make a judgement on him until he has been around a while."
