JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Getting back to the local and family feel was the goal of the 35th annual greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament. This year the competition was moved back to a two-day field. That evened the playing field and took away the advantage of the bigger boats being able to cover more water. This year the boats may have been smaller but the fish were plenty big. Last year the biggest fish weighed in at 41.5 pounds. After day one of the 2015 tournament, the leader in the clubhouse is at 43.2 pounds.
"We weren't sure if we were going to get anything today said Brittany Angelloz," who reeled in the biggest fish on day one. "We had a smaller king around 30 pounds earlier. We thought we were going to just weight that one in. Then all of a sudden its grandma came along and it was all so exciting."
In total 218 boats left the docks of the Sister's Creek Marina on day one. A total of 103 kingfish were weighted in. Day No. 2 begins on Friday morning at 6:30 a.m.
