Lagasse "Drive A Scout To School"

Blaze Barnett was the lucky boy scout that was driven to his school by NASCAR driver Scott Lagasse

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There's having your mom drop you off to school in the mini-van and then there's this.

Boy Scout Blaze Barnett – Blaze, a 4th grader at Crown Point Elementary School, was selected for the Drive a Scout to School where NASCAR driver Scott Lagasse drove Barnett to school in the car he will use at Daytona this weekend.

"It was pretty cool. Doing the donuts was the best part," said Barnett.

Blaze will join forces with Scott Lagasse Jr. to help spread the message of safety to all of his friends about being safe while riding their bicycles and walking near cars.

Lagasse says as nice as it is to get the kids out of class and answer questions about racing, there is a message he wants to get out, "I hope wearing your helmet, having reflectors on your bike, and using crosswalks becomes the cool thing to do again."

Being from St. Augustine, Lagasse says he always looks forward to racing at Daytona every year and this year he is racing in both the Craftsman Truck race on Friday and the Xfinity Series race on Saturday.

"I don't know if it is more or less pressure it's just neat to have the support around you that I do in this area, so it's always fun to be home and spend some time."
