Marcedes Lewis holds second annual football camp

Lewis' football camp is more than just football

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis held his second annual football camp at Robert E. Lee High School on Saturday. Lewis put on the free camp as part of his Marcedes Lewis foundation. The purpose of the event was to teach kids that there is more to life than just football and playing other sports.

I know that I'm going to change somebody's life today," said Lewis. "That's how we all feel. Whether it's my teammates helping out, my volunteers that are here and the board of my foundation. You're going to change somebody's life today."

Later this month Lewis will hold another camp in his native California and he wouldn't be able to pull this off without the help of other volunteers.

"Everything is so organized," said Lewis. "When you go to some camps it's not always like that. I'm fortunate to have people that really care about me and come out to support me. My foundation means everything to me and it would be nothing without the people that support me. "

Lewis wasn't the only Jaguar that took time out to give back to the community. Fellow tight end Julius Thomas says that these lessons won't soon be forgotten by camp attendees.

"When you're out here working you want to make sure to teach the fundamentals," said Thomas. "We're giving them the skills and knowledge that will help them throughout the rest of their careers. We don't want to just put them through a drill. We want to teach them the correct foot work, the correct body position, so that they'll have the most advantage in their careers moving forward."
