Morgan Brian lands on SI cover

NEW YORK – Morgan Brian, from St. Simons Island, landed on this week's Sports Illustrated cover.

The magazine created covers with all 23 players from this year's winning Women's World Cup team.

Brian, who played at Fredrica Academy, and played most of her junior soccer in Jacksonville  with the Ponte Vedra Storm was twice named the national player of the year while attending the University of Virginia.

Brian was key a player in the United States run to the title. Brian was inserted into midfield when Lauren Holliday was suspended in the group stage.

Brian remained in the starting lineup for the rest of the tournament and was lauded as the difference maker in midfield by head coach Jill Ellis.
