Jaguars prepare to make draft pick

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing to make their 2016 NFL Draft pick in Chicago.

News4JAX has live coverage of the draft from Chicago and Jacksonville with All Access: Draft Day, airing at 7 p.m. on Channel 4 and livestreaming on News4Jax.com.

With quarterbacks likely going No. 1 and No. 2 to the L.A Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, the draft really gets started with San Diego at pick No. 3.

For the moment, the Jaguars are comfortable at pick No. 5.

There’s no telling if they will trade up or trade back for more picks. If the Jaguars keep the fifth pick here are five names that could be on that card that’s handed to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Jalen Ramsey, FS/CB, Florida State: In Ramsey the Jaguars address their need for playmakers in the secondary. He can play three positions (cornerback, slot corner, or free safety). He has the length and size (6’1” and 209 pounds) that Jaguars coach Gus Bradley prefers in his defensive backs.

Some argue he may be the most talented player in the entire draft. If Ramsey last until the fifth pick (I don’t think he will), he would be the no-brainer pick.

Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA: Speed is the one thing you can’t coach and the Jaguars need more of it on the defensive side of the football. In similar fashion to Ramsey, Jack has the ability to play multiple positions. He’s 6’1,” and 245 pounds and at UCLA he played everywhere from linebacker, to safety and even covered receivers in the slot.

Not sure exactly where he fits in the Jaguars scheme but if you combine him with Telvin Smith that’s arguably the most athletic line-backing unit in the NFL.

Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State: For all the pieces the Jaguars have made on the defensive side of the ball, they haven’t added an outside pass rusher. If Bosa is on the board at No. 5 he would make a lot of sense. Bradley has said that you can never have too many pass rushers and he’d like to develop a unit that attacks opposing quarterbacks in waves.

In Bosa, Malik Jackson, Sen’Derrick Marks, Dante Fowler, and Jared Odrick the Jaguars would have the ability to move those players all along the defensive line.

DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon: Buckner is massive at 6’7” and 290 pounds. He’s been compared to Arizona’s Calais Campbell. With Todd Wash getting a promotion from defensive line coach to defensive coordinator it would be interesting to see how the Jaguars would use Buckner.

Laremy Tunsil, OT, Mississippi: If you notice the first four options were all on the defensive side of the football. We know the Jaguars aren’t taking a QB, WR or RB at pick No. 5. If Tunsil is still there at five they will have an interesting decision to make.

General manager Dave Caldwell has already announced that Luke Joeckel and Kelvin Beachum will compete to be the starter at left tackle.

Caldwell also said that when you take a player at No. 5 the plan is for him to be a 10-year starter.

With that said if Tunsil is the pick they would be counting on him to protect Blake Bortles’ blind side for the next decade. If that is the case they will likely put Joeckel on the trade market or look at moving him to guard.
