Fans flock to EverBank Field for Jags sale

Team gear, banners, signs, furniture up for grabs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – EverBank Field is cleaning out its furniture, Jags gear and signs to make room for new upgrades, and hundreds of fans took advantage of the opportunity on Thursday to own a piece of Jags history.

Many were surprised when they saw what was for sale at EverBank Field, including banners, some of the weights that the players used to work out, some shirts and pictures, even furniture from inside the field.

People said they just want a piece of history.

"I couldn't believe how much stuff is here,” said Dennis Chan, owner of the Blue Bamboo restaurant. “A lot of stuff went really fast, but there's still a great selection."

A.J. Andruszkiewicz was one of hundreds who showed up for the first day of the sale. He had his eyes on a particular item.

"I stopped by to pick up some Jaguars memorabilia,” Andruszkiewicz said. "(I'm looking for) a lot of vintage banners, stuff from the inaugural season. It'll look sweet in my TV room."

Many business owners arrived early to stock up on the big-ticket items.

"It was fun, a little bit of a frenzy at first,” said Rob Carryl, president of Reliance Supply. "(I was looking for) tables for the company lunch room, tables and chairs, and some Jaguars chairs."

The next time you go out to eat, you might recognize some of the furniture.

"There's a lot of furniture that we could use at our restaurant, and I see some of my restaurant neighbors here, too, and I'm sure they got some good deals,” Chan said.

Chan said his restaurant was involved in several events at EverBank Field, so it was all about keeping the memories alive.

"And the prices are great,” he said.

Many people at the sale credited EverBank Field and the Jags for offering up the items to those who supported them the most: the fans.

"This stuff belongs to the fans,” Andruszkiewicz said. “These are the people that are going to take care of it and be able to tell stories down the road."

The Jags will hold the sale throughout training camp on Sunday and will have another sale, while supplies last, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 2-4.

All sales are final, and cash and credit cards are accepted.
