JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jaguars addressed their short-staffed receiver corps by selecting two wide receivers in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday.
The Jaguars took Southern Cal wide receiver Marqise Lee (6-0, 192) with the seventh pick of the second round (39th overall) and Penn State WR Allen Robinson (6-2, 220) with the 29th pick of the second round (61st overall).
The Jaguars moved up nine spots to the 29th pick in a trade with the 49ers, who got the 70th pick and 150st pick in exchange.
"When it came down to it, we never imagined that we'd go back-to-back receivers, because we didn't think we'd have an opportunity to do it," general manager Dave Caldwell said. "We started to make calls for trades and had a couple lined up behind San Francisco, but San Francisco was the best deal."
The Jaguars then traded with the Patriots and selected University of Miami guard Brandon Linder (6-6, 311) with the 29th pick of the third round (93rd overall).
The Jaguars, who chose UCF quarterback Blake Bortles with the No. 3 overall pick on Thursday, have focused on improving a woeful offense so far in the draft.
The Jaguars selected Southern Cal WR Marqise Lee with the seventh pick of the second round of the draft.
"They got Blake over there, so I know they've got the quarterback situation all handled," Lee (pictured, Associated Press photo) told NFL Network after the pick was announced. "I'm ready to get in and get started honestly. I can't wait to get there."
Jaguars former top receiver Justin Blackmon was suspended indefinitely by the NFL and team officials have said they do not expect him to play this season.
"I'm going to make sure I get it done," Lee said. "I'm going to make sure I handle my business."
Lee said it was a long wait, sitting in Radio City Music Hall all through the first round and the early part of the second round the last two days.
"I'm always going to have a chip on my shoulder," he said. "Where I come from, a lot of people didn't expect me to make it. I'm finally here. But I've still got things to prove to everybody, that it's not just college, that I can do it in the NFL, too."
Lee caught 118 passes for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns his sophomore season and earned the Biletnikoff Award. Robinson caught 97 passes for 1,432 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.
The Jaguars selected Penn State WR Allen Robinson in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Linder, who won a state title at Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, was Miami's offensive MVP last season, starting all 13 games.
The Jaguars' picks were announced at Radio City by recently retired center Brad Meester, who was wearing a camo tuxedo jacket, which immediately drew reaction on Twitter.
