Jaguars participate in Hometown Huddle program

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Outside of maybe going in for treatment, Tuesday is the one day of the week where the Jaguars can get away from football. Often times they spend their off-day investing in the local community.

On Tuesday students at SP Livingston Elementary in New Town got up close and personal with Jaguars defensive end Jared Odrick. He was joined by several other volunteers that planted teaching gardens, so the students have a comfortable place to read.

This was part of the NFL's Hometown huddle program that encourages young people to live active and healthy lifestyles. Odrick said that when he was the age of these students he remembers being encouraged to take care of his body. And he feels its his duty to pass along those tips to the next generation.

"Eating a healthy diet is all apart of having a healthy brain," said Odrick. "If your brain can't function, you can't really do well at anything. I think that's the main message that everybody walked away with today. Hopefully they'll remember it and pass it along."
