Jaguars' Robinson says drugs, alcohol not factors in crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson insists he wasn't under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he fell asleep behind the wheel of his car and rolled through a red light and into a retention pond earlier this month.

Video from a red-light camera shows Robinson's car slowly drifting across oncoming lanes of Beach Boulevard and off the road  just after 4 a.m. July 3.

Robinson says "I'm truly blessed that nothing happened to nobody."

Robinson was cited for careless driving a week after the incident and fined $164 fine.

Because Robinson was not cited at the scene, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's launched an internal investigation into the actions of officers who responded.

Robinson says he "ended up dozing off" at the intersection a little after 4 a.m. after a "busy day." The former Michigan star added that he "probably should have just stayed in."

The 25-year-old Robinson and a female passenger, his cousin, were unhurt. One officer questioned Robinson and determined he was not impaired. But according to police, he was not tested for drugs and alcohol.
