Jalen Ramsey has successful knee surgery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars rookie first round pick Jalen Ramsey, who suffered a small meniscus tear in his right knee during workouts, had successful knee surgery Tuesday, and should be back for training camp in six weeks according to the Jaguars.

Ramsey got a second opinion about the injury but had surgery Tuesday to repair the meniscus.

The surgery was performed by noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, which involved trimming the meniscus rather than a full repair which would have kept the Jaguars first round draft pick out of action for six months.  That is obviously good news for head coach Gus Bradley.

"It's great news," Bradley said after the Jaguars completed their second OTA on Tuesday.  "That's what we had hope for.  We knew all of the scenarios, but I look back on how he (Ramsey) has handled all of this very maturely.  I'm just excited for him."

Gus also mentioned that before the injury, Ramsey was picking up his assignments with ease, allowing the coaching staff to give him reps as a nickel cornerback inside as well as his responsibilities outside.

Former Seminole teammate Telvin Smith said he was just happy the surgery went well, allowing Ramsey to get back to the field as fast and as healthy as possible.

"He's a strong guy, he's a fighter so anytime you have that combination you are going to get a guy that will come back even stronger, just to prove the kind of player that he is."
