OTA's are very important this year for Jaguars CB Aaron Colvin

He will miss the first 4 games of 2016 after testing positive for PED's in April

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For most Jaguars and Jaguars fans, week one of the NFL season cannot come soon enough.

However, for cornerback Aaron Colvin, his week one is going to come a little later than he wanted it to.

Colvin will have to wait until the Jaguars return from their bye in week six before he is allowed to see the field after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy in April.  The second-year cornerback from Oklahoma is allowed to participate in all of the Jaguars offseason activities as well as the preseason games.  Colvin talked to the media for the first time since that news came down two months ago.

"I was completely shocked when I got the news," Colvin said.  "Because it was nothing I did intentionally.  It is what it is though, I made the mistake and I'm not running from it.  It's on me, so at the end of the day I have to be smarter in the things that I do.  It was a lesson learned and I won't make that mistake again."

Colvin went on to say that he took the "something" the week he was sick with the flu but would not elaborate on what that something was.

In the meantime, the Jaguars have had to shuffle around personnel in this offseason to get them ready for Colvin's absence for weeks one through four when they play the Colts in London.  Colvin recognizes that this time in OTA's and camp coming up is not only very important to those filling in, but for him as well.

"The next couple of months are huge.  The team has to get guys ready to step up and do the things I do and I'm aware of that.  But at the same time, I have to get myself right.  When I get back I have to be ready to help this team win and I know I will be ready to do anything they need me to do."

At the senior bowl in 2014, Colvin suffered a torn ACL in one of the practices leading up to the game, forcing him to miss the first 10 games of the season.  Colvin says that dealing with that much time away from the game will help him this time around.

"After that first year, I kind of know how to cope and how to do things differently to prepare when I get back.  So, that's the things I'm going to do.  I'll be just fine, you guys just be ready for the return."

The return will happen on the road against the Chicago Bears on October 16th.
