JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Newly acquired defensive end Jason Babin could start for Jacksonville this week after just one practice with the Jaguars.
Babin practiced for the first time Thursday, a day after the Jaguars claimed the nine-year veteran off waivers from Philadelphia. The Eagles released him even though he started every game for them this year and led Philadelphia in sacks (5.5), including one in three of the last four games played.
He could provide instant help for the Jaguars, who are tied with Oakland with the fewest sacks (13) in the NFL. If right defensive end Austen Lane (foot injury) is not ready to play, Babin could be in the starting lineup Sunday against Buffalo.
Jacksonville hopes Babin is able to contribute; no Jaguars player has more than two sacks this season.
Babin said he was impressed with his new team's practice habits, "I am very excited, honestly I saw how practice was today and I got a lot more excited. I don't think the record reflects the caliber of the team."
The Jaguars and Bills kick off at 1pm Sunday from Orchard Park, N.Y.
